The Charter Review Committee of the City of Brownsville is holding meetings for the purpose of developing recommendations for revision of the Brownsville Home Rule City Charter.

A schedule of upcoming Charter Review Committee meetings is available for your convenience.

The City’s Home Rule Charter was first adopted at an election held on December 13, 1915.  It is set out on the city website as amended through 2000.  www.cob.us  click on City Charter.

Committee recommendations are expected to be presented before the City Commission, at the end of October or early November 2008, for their review and consideration.

The Commission, in turn, will determine which recommendations will be included in the voting ballot at a Charter election tentatively scheduled for May 2009.

A PUBLIC COMMENT FORM is available on this website for your convenience.

Your comments or suggestions are welcome. They must be in written format and be specific to the City Charter.  Please list the Article and Section of the Charter to which your suggestion refers.
